HIV and the Cell

HIV enters the body through blood, seminal or vaginal fluid. The virus seeks out cells with the appropriate receptors so that it can bind to the cell. T-cells have such receptors called CD4. HIV can not replicate on its own and therefore acts as an intracellular parasite.
